Audra's Meeting

Yesterday morning Audra went to Ben and said, "We need to have a meeting. Claire is being mean to me. She keeps hitting me. Here is what we need to talk about." She proceeded to hand Ben this agenda:

Not only did she have an agenda, she had built a fort out of blankets to have the meeting in. I suggested that we could have this meeting for a Family Home Evening or for devotional, and she insisted that was not acceptable.

She was quite upset that Ben didn't stay home from work for this meeting.

We climbed into the tent. I started talking about how we could be nice, and she said, "No, mom. This is what we need to do first." I stepped back and Audra led the whole meeting. She read the book, led the discussion, and even had a craft (#3) ready for us.

She had cut up lots of little squares with circles inside them and we were to use her squares and make presents.

Both Ben and I were impressed. Not that Claire is hitting Audra and that Audra felt the need to hold a meeting, but that Audra created an entire meeting all on her own. How many 7-year-olds write agendas? I had no idea she knew anything about agendas- I have no idea where she got that from. But, perhaps we have a quiet leader in our midst. This will be fun to watch as she gets older.

This is so awesome (well not the hitting part). I have one (Penny, if you couldn't guess) who will make lists, schedules and agendas for herself and us - and another who could care less about these things! It will definitely be fun to see what she does with these skills in the future (for both of them). Also, how did it go for resolving the hitting problem?

Good question- I think she shifted from hitting to more tantrums. Maybe I need to hold a "No tantrums" meeting!
