Yesterday Audra and Claire went to the Denver Art Museum for a field trip. They had such a fabulous time! I'm so glad they appreciate art.
When they got home, they decided to create their own art museum. It was super cute:
They had several rules about not touching the art and staying roughly two feet away from the art. The artists stood by their artwork and asked us questions. After we saw all the art, we were then asked questions about the art. They were very professional about it- they took it very seriously.

Dolls
Today for church Camille was asked to bring in an item that brings her "comfort" (this was related to a lesson on the Holy Ghost). She chose to bring a doll, Because of that, Claire also insisted on bringing her doll.
About half way through sacrament, I get this text:

She won't stop staring at me!
Needless to say, it was difficult to not bust out laughing. Claire told me she wanted her doll to be able to see everybody.

CHICKS!!!!
My girls SOOOO love baby chick, and luckily we have a friend who raises them and let's us come visit. Because, we are no longer allowed to have baby chicks in our house...
And, if you look really closely at Audra's smile, you should notice something different:
And, one last random tidbit: Camille was very proud of her Hello Kitty Wall and insisted I take a picture of her:

Ben's Birthday
Today was Ben's Birthday. He decided he wanted a new bike for his Birthday (no, he's not turning 12). He got his bike a couple weeks ago and still hasn't been able to take it out for a ride, and the weather isn't looking so good this weekend so he is a little bummed. I told him he should take today off of work as today the weather was perfect, but he opted to go to work instead.
The girls and I made him a nice dinner of salmon (his choice) and his favorite chocolate cake- so yummy!!!
Last night the girls went to a class for 4H about how to set a table and decorate for a party, so they were very excited to put their skills to use tonight (and, incidentally, that shirt and skirt that Audra is wearing is an outfit that she made for 4H- they turned out great):
The girls were very sweet- Camille made him a picture of donuts because Ben LOVES his donuts, and she gave him a snow globe that she made, Claire gave him a Lorax, and Audra made a mobile with signs that say the reasons that she loves him (because he loves her, because he is the best Dad in the world, because he plays video games with her, etc). It was very sweet. They did it all on their own

Grandma and Grandpa Come To Visit
We were very grateful that in my parents' month long road trip they took a couple days out of their itinerary to spend some time with us. Hopefully with retirement upon them, they will be able to come visit us more often. There were some tears when they left, but we were glad they came for at least a little bit.
They really, really wanted to sleep in the back of Grandpa's truck:
Pierre Michele's is a must when family comes into town. You can tell that spring is definitely here!
While Audra was at Birthday parties, we headed over to the Littleton Museum. Claire and Camille ran from place to place- they never settled down because they were so excited to see everything. Their favorites: the pigs and barn.
It took Camille a little bit to warm up to my parents, but pretty soon she had Grandpa wrapped around her finger:
We were sad to see them go, but we are excited to see them again this summer.

A Day In the Life
I recently read a series on another blog where homeschooling moms wrote out what their "typical" day looks like. It was pretty cool to peek inside the world of others, so I thought I would share ours as well.
Of course, a "typical" day is pretty hypothetical. That would consist of a day without errands, co-ops, swim lessons, misbehaved children, etc. We do get those days, but certainly not every day.
But, typically, here is what our days looks like:
6 AM: Kids wake up and amuse themselves while Ben and I continue to sleep. Usually they read or play with their stuffed animals or something similar.
7AM-ish: Ben and I begrudgingly get out of bed. I work out with Fitness Blender while the kids make themselves breakfast of cereal, toast, eggs, or oatmeal. After my workout, I make myself a smoothie for breakfast (of which the girls get one spoonful each), and Ben heads to work. If it is Tuesday or Thursday, he takes Audra to band on his way to work.

Typically, Camille sleeps in her bed. But sometimes she decides the floor is more desirable. |
8:30- After my shower, I either go and pick Audra up from band, or, if she doesn't have band, we get started on our day. We start with devotional- song, prayer, scripture, Article of Faith, story from The Friend (church magazine), and closing song.
8:45- Kids do their own scripture study and write in their journals. We just started doing this a couple of months ago, but it has been going really well. We use THESE study guides from Discover the Scriptures.
9:15- Math. We use Math U See, and Claire also does 2 Plus 2 Is Not 5 to work on her basic math facts.
10- One kiddo works on Grammar and Writing one-on-one with me while the other plays typing and math games on the computer. Then they switch.
10:45- Kids do their own reading assignments.
(meanwhile, Camille is doing puzzles, doing her own pre-school workbooks, reading, playing with Magformers, or any other activity that keeps her busy)
11 AM-Spelling, while Camille plays computer games.
Then, if we have time, the girls do geography and/or handwriting.
11:30- Lunch/break from school. Kids make their own lunch- usually sandwiches.
12:15-Walk Camille to school
1-Reading on the couch
2:30-Konos activities- hands on activities for whatever unit we are studying. It might be science experiments or art projects, or any other number of things.
3-Done with school for the day, go pick up Camille from school. Play outside until Dad gets home from work and we eat dinner.
That's our "typical" day.
But, as mentioned before, most days are not typical. On Mondays we throw a "recess" into the morning routine- we go to a nearby park and play with friends for an hour. On Tuesdays, Audra and Claire have swim lessons. Wednesdays the girls have Cloverleaf, on Thursday they used to have drama (though they don't anymore- phew!), and Fridays are always a toss up because Ben has every other Friday off so often we will quickly get our school done and then go on some sort of family outing, or Ben will teach them coding, or who knows what. Oh, and we have co-ops and Valentine's Day parties, and Homeschool Skate, and really sunny days where we just need to get outside and go on a hike, and....
And days like today. Where we spent our morning doing this:
And our afternoon doing this:
With school sandwiched in between.
It was a pretty crazy day (which is far more "typical" for us), but we are doing a unit on horses and they learned far more about horses going horseback riding than they ever could get from a textbook, and learning to make scones for 4H is certainly as important as learning how to diagram verbs. So, sometimes we have crazy days.
That's our life in a nutshell. It isn't perfect and it isn't always pretty, but it's pretty darn awesome and it's perfect enough for us.
