General Conference

Every six months our church leaders hold a General Conference, where they give members of our faith direction and council. It's a pretty wonderful weekend and always something to look forward to.

Unless you are a kid.

Trying to get the kids to listen to any of the speakers is difficult, so we try to at least get them to not be so loud that we can't hear. Even that can be difficult.

For the past several years I have been hosting a brunch with Ben's family in between the Sunday sessions (there are four sessions- two on Saturday, two on Sunday. Each session is two hours).

Audra helped me out by making some scones:

Audra and Claire did at least sit for President Monson's talk. That was a win.

Camille preferred sweeping:

Over the last couple of weeks we  have been doing "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Every night a different apostle "joined" us for dinner. I read a brief biography of them (with their picture hidden) and they had to try and guess who it was. This was our second time doing it, and the kids got a couple of them this time. I'm hoping as we continue doing it they will get more and more. As we "meet" them, I write a few details and hang a sign under their picture. Then, over the next couple of weeks we will watch one talk from an apostle each day, and we'll write down what they talked about under their picture as well. Hopefully that will help all of us remember what they taught us and help us apply what they taught us into our lives.

It was a great weekend!

I feel your pain with trying to watch with kids! A bingo game with words and pictures that might be said and some coloring pages worked for us for a little while at least. I like that idea of getting to know the apostles before conference! (But that requires planning ahead. Something I'm not very good at these days...)
