Our last day in Charleston didn't go very well.
I wanted to go downtown and show the family Rainbow Row and The Battery. That's really it- nothing too tough, just an hour or two, and then we could head to Myrtle Beach.
I sent my parents the address to the parking garage (we had separate cars). Ben and I drove down and waited. And waited. And waited.
Turns out, my parents parked at the completely wrong spot. Because they already paid $15 for parking (they totally got scammed), they didn't want to leave. So they walked 2 miles (with our kids, who they had) over to where we were. It took them 40 minutes in the super heat and humidity. By the time they got to us, they weren't doing well. And, my parents were DONE with Charleston and just wanted to leave to Myrtle Beach, but at this point they were two miles away from their car.
Ben and I decide to take our girls to Rainbow Row and the Battery ( only 0.3 miles away) and my parents will wait until we get back and then Ben will drive them to their car.
About 10 minutes later we get a call from my dad that my mom fell and bloodied up her knees really bad, and could Ben please come and rescue them.
It was awful.
Claire and Camille are hitting a wall, but we still haven't gotten to The Battery. So, Ben takes Claire and Camille to find my parents, and I take Audra so we can go walk to The Battery and at least she can see it. Audra and I walk to The Battery, and then we head to the spot where we agreed to meet Ben.
And, we wait. And wait. And wait.
40 minutes pass. Remember, my parents' car is only 2 miles away. And, Ben isn't answering his phone.
Finally, I get in touch with my dad. They are lost and can't find the parking garage!
Eventually they find it and Ben comes and picks us up. Ben is not happy. 40 minutes of driving around in circles.
We decide to go back to Publix to get subs again because they were so good the first time.
It takes the guy 36 minutes from start to finish to make my sandwich. No, I'm not joking.
We eat as a massive thunder/rain storm rages outside. It's BAD. We get to the car after eating totally drenched, and I drive us 2 1/2 hours in the storm. We went a lot slower because I couldn't see the road on the drive.
It was not a great day. We were all glad to get it over.
BUT...I did get to see Rainbow Row and The Battery and I got to share it with Audra, so that's something.
A cool bridge we got to drive over.
