Some Pictures of the Week

For those of you wondering, here is what a herniated belly button looks like. Claire had one also, and now it is a little bit of an outie, and is oh so cute:

 Just chillin':

This was really sweet- Audra loves Camille so much:

Hundred Degree Weather

It has been so HOT around here! Every day we need to do something with water. So today here is what we did:

Camille and I hung out inside (thank goodness for air conditioning!)

Look at her double chin- she is really getting big, and I LOVE it! She's got some thunder thighs that are so cute!
This is a really cool water thingy I bought at last year's clearance sale at Target. It has water dripping down where Audra is standing and there is a pool to splash in. Our kids are way too spoiled.
They also got out the water guns. Claire went up to Ben and said, "I KILL you!" So I had to explain that we don't kill or shoot people, we SPRAY people. That will fix it, right?
Ben gets some kisses from Audra...
 But watch out for Claire!

Camille's Baby Blessing

Yesterday was a very special day for our family. Ben blessed Camille.

When Claire was blessed I explained on this blog that in our church instead of baptizing babies, we give them a name and a blessing. This blessing is to act as a protection against Satan throughout their lives. When children turn 8, then they are baptized, as we believe that is when they have reached the age of accountability. We believe babies and children are incapable of sin and therefore they are not baptized until age 8.

Anyway, yesterday was a big day.

As usual, we did it "our" way instead of the conventional way. After church, we met with extended family members in the RS room (that's Mormonspeak for the room the ladies meet in) and blessed her there with a nice, small crowd. It was perfect.

Then afterwards we came home and had a BBQ. A perfect way to end a perfect day!

This is Camille's pre-blessing dress- pictures were taken before we left for church. Since the blessing was not until after church, she needed another dress to wear until then. This one was perfect! My friend MADE this dress- can you believe it? It is so beautiful, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it- and because it was made with so much love, it really felt like it made the day that much more special! Thank you SOOOOO much Danielle- it's GORGEOUS! (and, as you can tell, Camille looks gorgeous in it as well! This is definitely an heirloom dress- thank you!!!)

This is probably the best shot I have ever gotten of her face- isn't she adorable?
Here she is in her blessing gown- the same one both Audra and Claire wore for theirs. She cried pretty much the whole time she was wearing the dress- including all through the blessing. I forgot one minor detail: She would be hungry after church. But, I am in primary the hour before church gets out so I couldn't feed her until after the blessing. Oops!
Ben gave the blessing, and these were the men in the circle. A member of our Bishopric, my dad, Ben, and my cousin Clint. Small, but perfect.

And, this is the best we could do for a family picture. What a photogenic group we are! HA!

This was taken at the BBQ. My cousin Shellie was holding her and it made a perfect pose to show off Camille's mohawk- I LOVE it!

The Stubborns

I am pretty sure this story will go down in family folklore. It is SOOOO typical Claire!

The other day we were eating hamburgers for dinner. Claire said,

"I want a pickle."

Now, Claire does NOT like pickles. I am her mother. I know this to be true after many previous experiences. I said,

Me: "Claire, you don't like pickles."

C: "Yes I do! I DO like pickles!"

Me: "No you don't."

C: "Yes I do! I WANT a pickle!"

Me: "OK, here is a pickle."

Claire takes a bite and makes the most disgusted look you have ever seen. It is obvious she is hating every single chew.

Me: "Do you like it?"

C: "Yes, it's yummy" (while still making the face of torture for having this horrid pickle in her mouth)

Me: "OK, there's the rest of the pickle to eat" (pointing to her plate)

C: (picks up the last of the pickle, pops it in her mouth and eats it, while everyone at the table is laughing hysterically at her stubbornness.)

One Month

It's hard to believe it, but one month has already flown by with our little Camille-Bug.

Overall, she is still a really good baby- although she is now awake for a few hours everyday and seems confused as to what to do and so she cries.

She thinks she needs to eat about 100 times a day. I am pretty sure she is about 9 lbs. now. She weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. on Monday, but every day she gets bigger and bigger. Her thighs and cheeks are really starting to fill out. I am hoping for a really fat baby! We might finally get one! Hopefully she is lazy too and doesn't want to walk until about 15 months old!

For a newborn, she is really a pretty good sleeper. She wakes up about every 2-3 hours to nurse, but she immediately falls right back to sleep. Unlike certain other babies who would wake up and cry, and nurse, and want to play, she just latches on and then we both fall back asleep.

She loves her binky during the daytime, but at night she doesn't use her binky at all- a little strange, but whatever works we will do!

The older girls smother her way too much and that makes her cry, but I don't think it will change anytime soon. Audra often says, "Is the newborn baby awake?" or "I want to see if her eyes are open!"

We put her on Zantac because we are pretty certain she has GERD- that makes 3 for 3 so we weren't surprised.

There have been a couple of rough days, I'm not going to lie. Mostly about how to keep Audra and Claire happy while I'm tending to Camille's needs. They still require attention from Mom, and it's hard to give them that while I'm nursing. The first couple of weeks were also so severely difficult with my recovery. Thankfully, I am feeling much better now and so that is a huge help. I keep saying, and it is true, the difficult child is not Camille! Hopefully the other two will adjust and I will be able to figure out how to meet all of their needs.

We pretty much all love snuggling with Camille- she is a great snuggler! So far, we like her. I guess we'll keep her around for at least a little bit longer.

North Pole

We decided that if we wanted to go to the North Pole (a Christmas themed amusement park geared just for young kids), we should go while my mom was in town. An extra set of hands sounded like a good idea for such an adventure. So, yesterday Ben took the day off of work and we headed down. We were right: having grandma made a HUGE difference! There were many times when I needed to nurse and it was nice to have mom help with the older girls. Or, when two adults were  needed to go on rides with the girls, and it was great to have grandma to hold the baby.

At any rate, we had a fabulous time. This is definitely something we want to do as a tradition every year. We all had a blast. Except on the way home when all three girls decided it was time to have a meltdown. Nice. Oh, the joys of parenting!

Claire enjoyed shooting these guns a little too much...

A Third Set Of Hands

My mom came into town on Saturday and is here all week. It has been such a tremendous help to have another set of eyes, hands, and ears watching our kids. I can't believe how much easier it is to make and eat dinner with someone else to help  hold a baby. We might never let Grandma go back home!

Here they are in the new dresses Grandma brought:

This is just a cute shot of Camille sleeping:

And this is a drawing Audra made of our family- notice I am holding the baby:

I Can't Believe It!

I know that it is not the end of the world, that far worse things have happened in life. I also know that it isn't mine anymore. But, this is what happened to my old car today:

I am really sad about this. This is (was) SUCH a great car- I LOVED it! I had even thought I might buy it back when we had outgrown some carseats. A teenager from church took it to college a week ago and now here it is. He is just fine, thank goodness, but rest in peace my beloved car.

Due Date

I took Camille to church for the first time today. This was her second outfit (I'll let you guess what happened to the first outfit):

It's hard to believe that today is her actual due date. Of course, she would have been born last Sunday had she not decided to come so early. But now, here she is- almost 3 weeks old and getting bigger and bigger every day. At her two week appointment she was 7 lbs 3 oz and 20.5 inches long.

She did great at church. She slept through sacrament meeting, then I fed her, and then she went to Priesthood with Ben. She was awake the whole time- just checking things out and looking around- but of course didn't make a peep.

Overall, we are doing well. She sleeps a lot and grunts instead of cries, so that is helpful and nice. Nights even go pretty well (knock on wood). She wakes up every 2-3 hours to nurse, but then we both immediately fall back asleep so it's no worse than when I had to get up to go to the bathroom 6 times a night. Audra and Claire still think she is the greatest thing ever, so hopefully that continues. Hopefully, things will continue to go well- we are all sure loving this little bug!
