Funny Story

The other day I was reading a book. From the other room I hear Camille yelling "Stop it! Get off me! Leave me alone!"

Knowing the only possible culprit was Claire, I said, "Claire! Leave her alone- get off of her and stop touching her!"

Claire yelled back, "I am not touching her! I am just lying next to her because I love her so much!"

Hmm...Claire was not "just" lying next to her, I can guarantee that! She loves to annoy Camille! But it was pretty funny.

Art Museum

Colorado has this wonderful program where they have free museum day the first Saturday of every month. The lottery somehow pays for it.

Today we took advantage and took the girls downtown. We rode the train, ate lunch downtown, and headed to the Museum of Art. They were having a Henry Matisse exhibit, and since the girls had done a Matisse co-op and created their own Matisse artwork, we decided they should see his own original work.

At one point Claire said, "This is so BORING! We're just looking at art!" (Apparently everything bores her- we just can't keep her happy) The museum actually did a great job of having lots of kids events, but that is all Claire wanted to do. In our effort to try teach our kids culture, I guess we have to hear the complaints as well.

I suggested to Ben that we should make this a yearly tradition. He said maybe once the kids enjoy art. But, that's the problem in my mind: In order for the kids to enjoy art, they need to be exposed to art- hence the purpose of the trips to the museum.

It will come, I'm not worried. They LOVE doing art, and over time they can appreciate others work as well. Audra and Claire both, in the end, said they had a fantastic time and wanted to do it again. Apparently the train and the restaurant overrode the negative feelings of walking around looking at pictures.

The girls did love the quilts on display:

Pyramids

What would a unit study of Egyptians be without the building of pyramids?

It's a classic, so we just had to do it. There was a funny moment, though. After they built the first layer, I said, "Isn't this hard- can you imagine how hard it was for the Egyptians who built the real pyramids?" Claire responded in a super chipper, happy voice- "This is hard- I'm really feeling bored right now!" I had to stifle a really big laugh. But, once they got the second layer done and could see what they were building, she ended up having a blast and being quite proud of their pyramid.

Claire's friend Striker joined in the fun

It's A Wonderful Life

There are moments in life when everything just seems...great. Really great.

Today the girls got all dressed up in their Sunday best so I took them out for a quick little "photo shoot" and life just seemed pretty darn good.

And then a Christmas tree picture. Notice the tree is crooked. Oh, well- that's to remind us that not everything can be perfect all the time:) We need to get another picture, though- I'm pretty disappointed with all the back light that washes us all out. Photography is not my strong suit.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What a great Thanksgiving! We have so many blessings and so very much to be thankful for. We did a Thanksgiving tree again for the kids to write what they are thankful for. They put everything from "Rainbows" to "Family." It's always so sweet to hear what they say, and to remind us to be grateful for the little things like clothes and hair.

Today we went over to Ben's parents where we enjoyed a wonderful feast, football, and a walk to the park. This year I was in charge of rolls, jell-o, and pies. The girls helped me out- and for the first time, they were able to actually help, not just get in the way. It was nice.

Continuing one of my family traditions growing up, we put together a puzzle. This year we got a 300 piece puzzle, and the girls did most of it themselves:

Three of my greatest blessings

It was a lot colder than it looked!

The Nutcracker

On Saturday we took the girls to The Nutcracker. This is a yearly tradition which we thoroughly enjoy. Amazingly, even Camille sat down for most of the show- she just got restless for the last few minutes.

The girls were hilarious and decided they wanted to pose before the show. Since I always insist on getting in line an hour early so we get good seats (this drives Ben crazy, but we got front row seats so it was worth it), this was a good time killer.

With Clara, after the show:

Thanksgiving Party

There really are not too many things I miss about school. But, one thing I do miss is the holiday parties that Audra got to participate in. It was always something to look forward to in order to break up the monotony of the regular schedule.

A lot of my co-op offerings are holiday parties. I probably do too much- pretty much all of the other moms just do 1 or 2 co-ops, but I'm doing three Magic Tree House book clubs and also doing three holiday parties. It's a lot, and I think next co-op session I will not do nearly as much.

But...it's so fun, and so I do it- even though it is a lot of work.

The kids made Pilgrims/Indians costumes. Then the older kids who can read put on a little skit about the history of Thanksgiving.

Here's the cutest little Indian:
 They made Indian necklaces:

Then, of course, we had a Thanksgiving feast.

It was a success!
